THE ANJP’S VISION

"UNITING THE NEXT GENERATION OF PLASTIC SURGEONS"

Could you introduce the French National Association of Young Plastic Surgeons (ANJP) and explain the vision behind its creation?

The ANJP was founded to bring young French plastic surgeons together within an organization dedicated to their needs. Almost every medical and surgical specialty had a national association for its younger members, but plastic surgery did not.

We identified numerous challenges shared by residents, physicians in the final phase of residency, clinical fellows, and early-career surgeons: changes to the training curriculum, access to practical instruction, prospects for establishing a practice, work-life balance, and the integration of technological innovations into our specialty.

Our ambition was therefore to create an association that could both represent this new generation within the specialty’s governing bodies and provide a meaningful network for discussion, mutual support, and knowledge transfer.

Plastic surgery is a particularly diverse discipline, encompassing reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, burn care, and regenerative medicine.

We wanted young surgeons to have a shared forum that would encourage the exchange of experience and the development of collaborative projects. More broadly, the vision behind the ANJP’s creation is that of a dynamic, innovative, and forward-looking specialty.

We want to equip young surgeons to contribute actively to discussions about training, professional practice, research, and the evolution of our discipline. Our objective is not only to support young plastic surgeons throughout their careers, but also to help shape the future of plastic surgery.

What are the association’s main objectives today, both scientifically and professionally?

Today, the ANJP pursues several complementary objectives across science, education, and professional development.

On the scientific front, our priority is to promote access to high-quality training for all young plastic surgeons. This involves developing supplementary educational programs, organizing scientific events, promoting clinical and basic research, and connecting young surgeons through collaborative projects.

Professionally, our role is to support young surgeons at every stage of their careers. Issues surrounding residency, clinical fellowship appointments, the establishment of a practice, different practice models, and career balance are central concerns for our generation. The association aims to serve as a key point of contact for communicating these concerns and contributing to discussions led by the specialty’s governing bodies. We also place particular emphasis on building a strong national network of young plastic surgeons.

Compared with other specialties, our numbers are relatively small. Maintaining dialogue with surgeons in other cities can be difficult.

Finally, we want to prepare for the specialty’s future by ensuring that young surgeons play an active role in discussions about developments in plastic surgery, including technological innovations, artificial intelligence, surgical simulation, public health challenges, and changes in aesthetic and reconstructive practice.

Our ambition is for the ANJP to provide a forum for education, representation, and reflection for the next generation of plastic surgeons.

How does the association provide practical support for the development of young plastic surgeons at the beginning of, or during, their careers?

Our association was created with a straightforward ambition: to support young plastic surgeons during a pivotal phase of their careers, spanning residency, clinical fellowship appointments, and the first years of practice. This transition often raises numerous scientific, technical, academic, and professional questions.

The association provides practical support for professional development by promoting continuing education, the exchange of experience, and networking. Through our webinars, seminars, research projects, and events, we create learning opportunities that complement university training and allow young surgeons to engage directly with more experienced colleagues.

Beyond the acquisition of knowledge, we aim to bring together a dynamic community in which members can develop collaborations, find mentors, share their projects, and build a strong professional network. In a constantly evolving specialty such as plastic surgery, this environment is a valuable resource for career development, whether in academic medicine, private practice, or a combination of both.

What types of initiatives, events, or support do you offer to the association’s members?

We offer a broad range of initiatives to address the scientific, professional, and personal needs of young plastic surgeons.

In education, we regularly organize webinars on current topics, as well as seminars dedicated to scientific research, to support skills development and the emergence of new projects. We also support our members by providing opportunities to attend national and international conferences and to present at the specialty’s major scientific meetings.

How do you anticipate developments in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine, and what role do you hope to play in these transformations?

Plastic surgery is a constantly evolving specialty, driven by technological advances, innovation in medical devices, the development of new surgical techniques, and changing patient expectations. Our role is to help young surgeons anticipate these transformations rather than simply react to them.

To achieve this, we encourage active monitoring of scientific developments by offering training on the latest innovations, facilitating exchanges with recognized experts, and supporting clinical research. We also seek to promote an evidence-based approach, so that new practices are adopted with critical appraisal and in accordance with safety and ethical requirements.

Our ambition is to make the association a genuine forum for new ideas among the next generation of plastic surgeons. By building connections between young surgeons, academic teams, scientific societies, and innovation partners, we aim to help shape the future of our specialty rather than merely keep pace with it.

What role do industry partners, including pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers, play in the association’s activities and development, and why is supporting an organization like yours strategically valuable to them?

Industry partners, whether pharmaceutical companies or medical device manufacturers, play an essential role in our association’s development. Their support enables us to bring to fruition many of the projects that sustain our community of young plastic surgeons: research seminars, webinars, training days, and social events such as our gathering at the start of the academic year.

We place great importance on building relationships of trust with these partners, grounded in transparency and respect for the association’s scientific independence. We therefore ensure that their participation in our events takes place within a clearly defined framework that encourages dialogue with young surgeons.

When the association was founded, one of our main challenges was to convince partners of the potential of a newly established organization with no track record of activities to present. In practice, they quickly recognized the value of the project. Beyond the visibility it offers, it enables them to engage with a new generation of plastic surgeons, an audience that is often difficult to reach through traditional channels. This collaboration therefore creates a mutually beneficial partnership that supports education, innovation, and the vitality of our specialty.

You also selected HEALTHCIE and HERITAGE Magazine as digital partners. What informed this decision, and how does their expertise benefit young plastic surgeons?

The decision to collaborate with HEALTHCIE came very naturally. It was based primarily on the relationship of trust we had established with its founder, Julien Vervel, as well as the many positive accounts we had received from surgeons and healthcare professionals who had already drawn on his expertise.

From the earliest stages of the association’s creation, Julien understood our vision and the challenges we faced. He supported the development of our digital identity, particularly through the creation of our website, while advising us on the most appropriate strategies to increase the association’s visibility among young plastic surgeons and our various partners.

Today, digital communication has become a powerful means of bringing a community together, disseminating scientific content, and highlighting an association’s projects. Having a partner who specializes in healthcare is therefore a considerable asset. His expertise allows us to professionalize our communication while remaining aligned with the ethical requirements of our specialty.

Beyond supporting the association, we believe this expertise can also benefit young plastic surgeons themselves. As a digital presence plays an increasingly important role in both the patient journey and the development of a professional practice, understanding the principles of responsible, appropriate communication has become a professional competency in its own right.

Our partnership with HERITAGE was informed by the magazine’s editorial quality, the relevance of its scientific and professional content, and its ability to reach a discerning community of practitioners. We felt it was important to work with a publication capable of reporting on our events with rigor while highlighting the work of young plastic surgeons.

HERITAGE Magazine provides genuine added value by giving our activities structured, high-quality exposure. Beyond event coverage alone, it extends the impact of our initiatives by disseminating clear, contextualized information that is accessible to the entire community.

For our members, it also offers an opportunity to have their projects, research, and contributions showcased within a recognized professional publication, helping to strengthen a culture of exchange and recognition among the younger generation of plastic surgeons.

A GENERATION IN MOTION

Some collaborations arise naturally from a shared vision, shared standards, and a desire to move things forward. In this spirit, the French National Association of Young Plastic Surgeons (ANJP) and HEALTHCIE, an SEO agency dedicated to physicians and surgeons, developed this new digital project together.

With this new website, the ANJP gains a platform that reflects its identity: contemporary, unifying, and firmly focused on the future. Designed to highlight its identity, commitments, and extensive partner network, it supports an association undergoing significant growth.

For HEALTHCIE, partnering with the ANJP also means choosing to support a new generation of surgeons, their initiatives, and their ambitions. This project reflects a shared commitment: to increase the visibility of those advancing their discipline and provide the ANJP with a digital presence that matches the scope of its new projects.
